Wix Is Already Documenting Studio Two. Here's What We Found.

Most platform news arrives with a keynote and a countdown. This one is sitting in a documentation table.

On Wix's official developer pages, the section on how data collections are added to a site lists two different entries. One reads "Wix Studio and Wix Editor." The other reads "Studio Two."

That's an interesting distinction.

Wix has not yet published a comprehensive public product announcement explaining Studio Two, its complete feature set or its release timeline. But its own documentation already identifies Studio Two as a separate development path.

At W3BO, we examined what Wix has published and separated the findings into three categories: what is officially confirmed, what we can reasonably interpret, and what remains unknown.

What Wix Has Actually Written

The official Wix Data Collections documentation, last updated September 29, 2026, distinguishes between two development paths:

  • Studio Two: Developers can add data collection extensions directly to the site project through Wix Extension Builder. Collections can also be managed and read through the CMS interface or the Data API.

  • Wix Studio and Wix Editor: Developers can add, manage and read collections through the CMS interface or the Data API.

Another official document, Wix App Tools, updated October 21, 2026, also lists Studio Two separately.

In this case, however, the instructions are essentially the same: to make custom App Tools available to Wix's AI assistant, Aria, developers should create a private app and install it on the site.

These references may seem small, but they reveal something important: Wix is already documenting Studio Two separately from its existing editors.

What Does That Mean in Plain English?

You don't need to be a developer to understand why this matters.

CMS collections are structured sets of information used to power dynamic websites.

Imagine a real estate website containing hundreds of property listings, an online store with product information, or a design studio displaying its portfolio projects. Instead of creating every page manually, the website can use collections to organize information and display it dynamically.

In today's Wix Studio and Wix Editor, collections can be created and managed through the visual CMS interface or programmatically through the Data API.

Studio Two introduces another documented approach: adding data collection extensions directly to a site project through Wix Extension Builder.

A data collection extension can define the structure of a collection, including its fields, data types and permissions, through a configuration rather than requiring everything to be set up manually.

The documentation doesn't yet explain the complete Studio Two workflow, but this distinction suggests a different approach to how website functionality may be organized during development.

For an ordinary website owner, the visible result might not look different. The change appears to concern how developers build and manage the underlying functionality.

Why Does Wix List Studio Two Separately?

This is where things become particularly interesting.

Wix's official Development Paths documentation describes Wix Studio and Wix Editor as closely related development environments.

Another page, Types of Wix Sites, identifies existing Wix site types, including Editor, Studio, Harmony and headless projects.

Neither provides a detailed explanation of Studio Two.

Yet newer documentation gives Studio Two its own entry.

That doesn't automatically mean we're looking at a complete replacement for Wix Studio. It does, however, establish that Wix recognizes a separate development path with at least one documented technical difference.

And that is worth paying attention to.

Our Interpretation: A More Flexible Development Architecture?

Two phrases stand out in the documentation:

"Site project" and "Wix Extension Builder."

Wix already supports structured development approaches for apps, including extensions that define data collections programmatically.

Could Studio Two bring similar capabilities into the website-building workflow itself?

Potentially.

Such an approach could eventually make certain development components easier to organize, reuse or maintain across projects.

For agencies and developers building complex websites, that would be an interesting direction.

But this is our interpretation, not an official Wix announcement.

Wix has not confirmed a complete reusable website architecture, new deployment workflows or specific version-control features for Studio Two.

For now, the documentation establishes a difference in how data collection extensions can be added. Anything beyond that remains to be confirmed.

What About AI and Automation?

Artificial intelligence is becoming a major part of website creation and management, so it's natural to wonder whether Studio Two will introduce a new generation of AI-powered tools.

Wix is already expanding its AI ecosystem.

Its AI assistant, Aria, can work with capabilities exposed through App Tools, allowing compatible apps to provide actions the assistant can invoke.

Wix has also introduced WebMCP, technology designed to support structured interactions between compatible AI agents and Wix websites.

However, an important distinction needs to be made.

The official App Tools documentation describes the same Aria integration approach for Studio Two, Wix Studio and Wix Editor.

That does not establish that Studio Two will introduce exclusive AI design tools, new automation systems or an entirely different AI-powered editing experience.

Wix continues developing AI capabilities across its platform, but the specific role of AI in Studio Two has not yet been fully explained.

Studio Two, Wix Studio 2 or Studio 2.0?

There's another interesting question: what will the new platform actually be called?

Different names are already appearing in documentation and online discussions.

Studio Two is the terminology used in the official Wix developer documentation we've examined.

Studio 2.0 appears as a category within the Wix Help Center, under its Wix Studio resources.

Meanwhile, Wix Studio 2 is appearing in articles and discussions published by Wix professionals and partners.

Are all three names referring to the same platform?

Possibly, but we haven't found an official Wix statement explicitly confirming that relationship.

For now, Studio Two is the name used in the developer documentation, and we'll continue monitoring Wix's announcements for clarification.

What Could Studio Two Mean for Designers, Developers and Businesses?

Although details remain limited, the existing documentation raises some interesting possibilities.

For web designers: Studio Two may introduce changes to the development workflow behind professional websites. Whether the visual editor itself will change significantly remains unknown.

For developers: The documented support for site-level data collection extensions suggests a development approach worth investigating, especially for projects involving CMS architecture and custom functionality.

For business owners: There is no reason to postpone a website project or rebuild an existing Wix website based on these early references. Today's Wix Studio remains a capable platform for professional website creation.

The important distinction is between what Wix has documented and what might eventually become possible.

What Wix Has Not Confirmed

As of our October 26, 2026 review, we have not found official confirmation of:

  • A public release date or complete launch timeline for Studio Two.

  • A confirmed list of new AI-powered features exclusive to Studio Two.

  • Whether existing Wix Studio or Wix Editor websites will be able to migrate.

  • Whether Studio Two will support templates or a dedicated template Marketplace.

  • Whether Studio Two will replace the current Wix Studio editor.

  • Any announcement that Studio Two will replace or retire Velo.

These questions matter, particularly to Wix professionals working on long-term client projects.

We'll update this article as more official information becomes available.

Where This Leaves Us

Documentation often reveals technical developments before they become major public announcements.

A separate entry in two official Wix developer pages isn't a product launch. But it is meaningful evidence that Studio Two is already part of Wix's documented development ecosystem.

For designers, developers and agencies, the most sensible approach is to stay informed without rushing to conclusions.

At W3BO, we're following these developments closely.

Once Studio Two becomes available and supports template creation, we plan to develop a collection of premium Studio Two templates, focused on distinctive design, advanced functionality and professional quality.

You can follow future availability through our Wix Studio Two Templates page.

And if you're planning a professional Wix Studio website today, there's no need to wait for an unannounced platform.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Studio Two?

Studio Two is a development path identified in Wix's official developer documentation, separately from Wix Studio and Wix Editor. The documentation describes support for adding data collection extensions directly to site projects through Wix Extension Builder. Its complete feature set and public release timeline have not yet been announced.

What is Wix Studio 2?

Wix Studio 2 is a name appearing in discussions and articles about the potential next generation of Wix Studio. However, the official developer documentation examined here uses the name Studio Two. Wix has not explicitly confirmed that these names refer to the same final product.

Is Studio 2.0 the same as Studio Two?

It's possible, but not officially established by the sources we've reviewed. Wix's Help Center includes a Studio 2.0 category, while its developer documentation uses Studio Two. We'll update this explanation when Wix publishes a clearer description of how these names relate.
